Solar Panel Repair and Service in Central Virginia

If your solar system has gone quiet, keeps throwing an error code, or just makes less power than it used to, we can find out why and fix it. Earth Right Mid-Atlantic handles solar panel repair, inverter replacement, wiring faults and roof leaks around mounts from our base in Lynchburg. We also work on systems other companies installed. You don’t need to have bought anything from us to book a service visit.

That last part matters more every year. Plenty of Virginia homeowners bought solar from a company that has since closed, stopped answering the phone or left the state. The panels on the roof still have decades of life in them. They just need someone local to look after them.

We Repair Solar Systems Other Companies Installed

Any installer, any system. If another company put your panels up and is now out of business, unreachable or slow to respond, we’ll take over the service. There’s a name for this now: an orphaned solar system.

Working on someone else’s system starts with a full inspection, because we don’t yet know how it was put together. We check the panels, inverter, wiring and roof attachments, look through the monitoring history, and tell you what we found before any repair starts.

What We Fix

Solar Panel Repairs We Handle

Most service calls start with one of the problems below. Some are fixed in an hour. Some need a part ordered.

Solar inverter replacement in Central Virginia

Inverter faults and replacement

The inverter turns the DC power your panels make into the AC power your house runs on, and on most systems it wears out long before the panels do. A warning light that won’t clear, a blank display, a fault code or production that suddenly drops to zero usually points here. Sometimes the cause is a loose connection, a tripped breaker or a firmware fault we can sort out on site. If the power electronics inside have failed, the unit gets replaced.

SolarEdge inverter and power optimizer repair

SolarEdge inverter repair

Earth Right is a certified SolarEdge installer, and our team also holds SolarEdge technician certifications for home batteries and the Energy Hub. We know how a SolarEdge system fits together: the inverter, the power optimizer behind each panel, and the monitoring platform that ties them together. When an optimizer drops out or the inverter shows an error, we trace which part is at fault instead of guessing.

Enphase microinverter replacement on a single solar panel

Enphase microinverters

On an Enphase system each panel has its own small microinverter. One failing doesn’t take the whole system down, which is exactly why it can go unnoticed for months. Your app shows one panel making nothing while the rest carry on. We find the failed unit and swap it. Enphase IQ microinverters carry a 25-year limited warranty, so the replacement part is often covered.

Damaged or underperforming solar panel replacement

Damaged or underperforming panels

Cracked glass, storm damage, hot spots, or a panel that has quietly fallen behind the rest of the array. We test each string, find the weak panel and replace it with a compatible one. If your original panel model isn’t made anymore, we’ll tell you what fits and what it means for the rest of the system.

Solar wiring and connection fault repair by a licensed electrician

Wiring and connection faults

Loose connectors, corroded terminals and wiring chewed by squirrels all cut production, and some of them are a fire risk. Earth Right is a Class A Virginia contractor with an electrical (ELE) designation, so the electrical side of a repair stays with our own licensed team.

Solar panel mount roof leak repair

Roof leaks around panel mounts

A leak under an array almost always starts at an attachment point. We take off the panels over the leak, repair and reseal the roof at the mount, and put everything back. Earth Right also runs its own roofing division, certified with GAF, so the roof work and the solar work don’t need two separate companies. If the whole roof is due for replacement, our solar panel removal and reinstallation service takes the array off and puts it back once the new roof is on.

Signs Your Solar System Needs a Repair

You don’t have to diagnose the problem yourself. If any of these sound familiar, book a visit and we’ll find the cause.

  • Your monitoring app shows zero production, or far less than the same month last year.
  • Your power bill has crept up and nothing about how you use electricity has changed.
  • The inverter shows a red or orange light, a fault code, or a blank screen.
  • One panel, or one row of panels, reads well below the others.
  • There’s a water stain on a ceiling under the array, or you can hear animals under the panels.
  • Your installer has closed and nobody has looked at the system since. That alone is worth one inspection.

What happens to your warranty if your installer closed

Your equipment warranties usually survive. Panel, inverter and battery warranties come from the manufacturer, not the installer, so they stay in force after the company that sold them is gone. The workmanship warranty is a different story. That was a promise from the installer, and it generally ends when the installer does.

When a part that’s still under a manufacturer warranty fails, we can help you file the claim.

Know early

Monitoring Alerts and Production Drops

Your monitoring app is usually the first place a problem shows up. An alert, a day of missing data or a month that comes in well under last year all deserve a look. Not every alert means something’s broken, though. A system can show offline because the home Wi-Fi changed or the monitoring gateway lost power, while the panels kept producing the whole time.

Send us a screenshot of the alert when you request service. It helps us bring the right parts the first time. Our guide to solar monitoring alerts explains the common ones and what each usually means.

Service visit

How a Solar Service Visit Works

01

Tell us what’s happening

Use the form or call us. Let us know your inverter brand if you know it, what the monitoring app shows and who installed the system. A photo of the inverter’s label helps.

02

We review it before anyone drives out

We look over what you sent first. Some problems can be narrowed down from the monitoring data alone, which saves you a wasted visit.

03

We inspect and troubleshoot

On site, our technician tests the system from the panels on the roof to the main electrical panel, finds the fault and explains it in plain terms.

04

We repair and explain

You get a price before any repair work starts. Once it’s fixed, we confirm the system is producing again and show you what we did. [CONFIRM WITH STEPHEN: is there a diagnostic or service-call fee, is it credited toward the repair, and how long is the workmanship warranty on repairs?]

look after the system

Other Ways We Look After Your System

Repairs are one part of owning solar. As a Tesla Powerwall Premier Certified Installer, we install home battery backup , and Powerwall 3 works with or without solar, so it can sit alongside the panels you already have. We also design and install new residential solar systems and commercial solar. Our home energy efficiency team handles insulation, air sealing and attic ventilation, which cuts how much power your panels have to cover.

Questions

Solar Repair Questions

Do you repair solar systems Earth Right didn’t install?

Yes. We service systems from any installer, including companies that have closed or stopped responding. The first visit on a system we didn’t install is a full inspection, so we understand how it was built before we change anything. You don’t need to have bought anything from us.

My solar company went out of business. Is my warranty gone?

Probably not all of it. Manufacturer warranties on the panels, inverter and battery stay with the equipment, so they usually still apply after the installer closes. The installer’s workmanship warranty generally ends with the company. We can check what’s still covered when we inspect the system.

How do I know if my solar inverter is failing?

Watch for a warning light that won’t clear, a blank display, a fault code, buzzing or clicking, or a sudden drop in production on your monitoring app. A rising power bill with no change in how you use electricity is another sign. Some of these turn out to be a tripped breaker or a communication fault, so have it checked before you assume the inverter is finished.

How long do solar inverters last?

It depends on the type. String inverters usually wear out well before the panels, and many brands warranty them for about 10 to 12 years. Microinverters tend to last longer, and Enphase IQ microinverters carry a 25-year limited warranty. The panels themselves often keep producing for 25 years or more.

My monitoring app says my system is offline. Is it broken?

Not always. An offline status often means the monitoring device lost its internet connection, for example after a new router or a power cut, while the panels kept producing. Check whether the inverter itself shows power. If it doesn’t, or the app shows zero production for more than a day, book a service visit.

Can you repair or replace a SolarEdge inverter?

Yes. Earth Right is a certified SolarEdge installer, and we diagnose and replace SolarEdge inverters and power optimizers. If the unit is still under SolarEdge’s warranty, the replacement part may be covered, though manufacturer warranties often exclude labor and shipping.

Do solar panels need regular maintenance?

Not much. There are no moving parts, so most systems only need an occasional check of the connections, mounts and inverter, plus a look for new shade or animal damage. A service plan puts that check on a schedule so you don’t have to remember it.

What areas do you cover for solar repair?

We’re based in Lynchburg and service systems across Central Virginia, including Bedford County, the Roanoke Valley and the New River Valley. If you’re farther out, call us and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can get to you.
